The setup was super quick — I was up and running in less than 10 minutes. The control panel is clean and easy to navigate, even without much technical experience.

I had an issue with one mod and was hopeless even with ChatGPT. Once I contacted support they gave a fast response and bingo — the solution.

Build 41 or Build 42

Build 41 or Build 42 — your choice, one click.

The first thing every Project Zomboid buyer asks. You pick the branch when you deploy and switch it from the panel later — no reinstall, no ticket.

Stable branch

Build 41 — it just works

The current stable branch. Rock-solid, well-understood, and the safe pick for a friend server that should never wobble. On RAM, ~4 GB is a solid start for a small group — add more for extra players, mods, or heavier world settings. This is what the free trial runs.

Newest · unstable

Build 42 — where the momentum is

The newest branch, with active multiplayer and a big visual step up. Honest take: it's playable but still being patched, and a Build 42 update can break save compatibility. Build 42 multiplayer wants 6–8 GB+ (more for bigger groups or long-lived worlds) — Inferno (12 GB) is the tier we'd point you at.

Switch a server between Build 41 and Build 42 from the panel — but the two branches use separate saves and mods, so a Build 41 world doesn't convert to Build 42. Every plan ships auto-backup-before-update, so a rough Build 42 patch is a rollback, not a lost world.

Most PZ hosts won't name their CPU. We do.

Every Project Zomboid server runs on AMD Ryzen 9 9950X or EPYC 9374F with ECC RAM and NVMe SSDs, in our NorthC Nieuwegein datacenter over our own AS208112 transit. Project Zomboid leans on one fast core, so per-core clock matters most — it's what keeps a big horde from tanking your tick rate. Goliath DDoS filtering runs 24/7.

Your players don't assemble a modpack. Enable a mod on the server and Steam pulls it to every player who joins — no manual modpack assembly. One-click Steam Workshop install from the panel; we write the WorkshopItems and Mods lines for you. Build 42 mod support is per-mod, though: Build 41-only mods need updating before they run on Build 42, so Build 42 modded multiplayer is still rougher than Build 41.

How much RAM · sizing

Which plan fits your world.

Project Zomboid ships with a ~3 GB max Java heap; we auto-raise it to your plan's RAM on setup, so a 12 GB plan actually uses 12 GB. These are our recommendations — Build 42 multiplayer wants more headroom than Build 41.

FAQ · Straight answers

Project Zomboid server hosting — FAQ.

How much does a Project Zomboid server cost?
OXY.Games Project Zomboid plans start at €6.40/mo for a 4 GB Boost — the honest floor for the game — and go up to €51.20/mo for a 32 GB Pro 32. Most groups pick Blaze (8 GB · €12.80/mo); Build 42 servers want Inferno (12 GB · €19.20/mo). We charge €1.60/GB, the same flat rate as our Minecraft plans, and the first month is 20% off automatically at checkout.
Build 41 or Build 42 — which should I pick?
Build 41 is the stable branch: it just works, and it's the safe pick for a friend server that should never wobble. Build 42 is the newest branch where the momentum is — multiplayer is active and it looks great, but it's still being patched, and a Build 42 update can break save compatibility. You pick the branch when you deploy and can switch a server between them from the panel — but the two branches use separate saves and mods, so a Build 41 world doesn't convert to Build 42. Every plan ships auto-backup-before-update, so a rough B42 patch is a rollback, not a lost world.
Can I run Steam Workshop mods on my server?
Yes, one-click from the panel. Pick your Workshop items and we write the WorkshopItems and Mods lines for you — no editing config files by hand. Enable a mod on the server and Steam pulls it to every player who joins — no manual modpack assembly.
Do my players need to install the mods themselves?
No. Whatever mods you enable on the server, Steam pulls to each player automatically when they connect — no manual modpack assembly. Change the mod list and players pick it up on their next join.
How much RAM does a Project Zomboid server need?
The dedicated server ships with a ~3 GB max Java heap (-Xmx3072m); with OS and JVM overhead on top, 4 GB is the practical floor, so our tiers start at Boost (4 GB). We auto-raise the heap to your plan's RAM, so you use what you pay for. As OXY recommendations: ~4 GB is a solid start for a small Build 41 server — add RAM for more players, mods, or heavier world settings. Build 42 multiplayer wants 6–8 GB+, more for bigger groups or long-lived worlds. An under-provisioned server runs out of memory under load, not on boot.
Is Build 42 multiplayer stable?
Honestly: it's playable but still being patched. Build 42 multiplayer works and plenty of groups run it happily, but it's the newest branch — expect the occasional rough edge, and a Build 42 update can break save compatibility. Mod support is per-mod, too: Build 41-only mods need updating before they run on Build 42, so Build 42 modded multiplayer is still rougher than Build 41. Want rock-solid over newest? Run Build 41 — and either way, auto-backup-before-update is on by default so an update can't wipe your progress.
Can I move my existing save or server here?
Yes. Order any plan, send us your whole Zomboid data folder — world, server config and player database — plus your mod list (upload it or attach it to a ticket) and our team drops it into your new server, free with every plan, usually done under an hour. Matching your exact Workshop mod set is part of the setup.
Where are your servers located and what's the ping?
All Project Zomboid servers run in our NorthC Nieuwegein datacenter in the Netherlands, over our own AS208112 network with Goliath DDoS filtering. That means low ping across NL, BE, DE, FR, UK and the Nordics — which matters in PZ, where a bad connection turns a zombie ambush into a rubber-banding mess.
Do I need to own the game?
The dedicated server is a free download — you don't need to own the game to run it. Every player needs their own legitimate copy of Project Zomboid. Steam servers are for Steam players; GOG/non-Steam players can connect when the server runs in non-Steam mode (Steam Workshop mods are limited in that mode).
Is there a free trial?
Yes — 3 days free on Boost (4 GB), no card required. The trial runs Build 41 (the stable branch), which is the honest fit for 4 GB; Build 42 multiplayer wants 6–8 GB+, so we don't pretend a 4 GB B42 server performs well. Spin it up, invite your friends, load some Workshop mods and decide after.
